Mobile Developer Resumes
Each curriculum track at Lambda is meant to prepare students to apply to a job within their industry of study. Resumes for each track vary in regards to industry standards for content and formatting. Mobile resumes NEED to feature an app on the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android). Mobile focused resumes can include:
A summary (optional)
Highlight your background and accomplishments. This should be tailored towards the position you are applying for, and only needs to be 2-3 sentences.
A skills and tools section
Separated by the different types of skill sets and technologies you have learned. Subsections can be divided by “frameworks”, “programming languages”, and “platforms”. Examples of skills or tools to include for iOS: Swift, Objective-C, UIKit, Core Data, Unit Testing. For Android: Java, Kotlin, SQL, Unit Testing, Gradle.
A projects or applications section
Formatted in such a way that highlights what the app focused on, while reflecting skills, responsibilities and accomplishments developed by working on the app. As an app developer it is imperative that your app is on the store, as many companies expect you to have a live app that speaks for itself. Live apps should also be consistently maintained, addressing any bugs as they are discovered. Here’s how to highlight your app:
Application Title (hyperlink to the app on the store)
One concise sentence describing the function, focus and/or purpose of the project
Built using...list tools, methods and technologies
- Write a bullet to describe the context in which it was built. For example “Served as (role on team), on a cross functional team of #, with a deadline of # weeks.
- Describe an accomplishment or how you utilized tools and technologies
- Describe how you focused on user experience, and/or used specific methods
- Features of the app worth highlighting
An employment or experience section
Focused on the roles you have served in that highlight the accomplishments, responsibilities and skills related to the position you’re applying for.
An education section
That includes Lambda School with “iOS” or “Android” highlighted as your career track. You should include any previous schooling as well. If you have any certifications, you can turn this into an “Education and Training” section.
